Application Process

Households that meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest form to be considered as part of the random selection draw.


Candidates who submit an Expression of Interest by the deadline will be entered into the random draw. Those applicants who are selected will be invited complete their formal rental application.

Timeline​

Expression of Interest forms will be accepted until May 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET). 

1. Expression of Interest Form

Expression of Interest Forms can be submitted until May 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET).


Expression of Interest submissions can only be submitted online. Expression of Interest forms cannot be accepted by email, mail or in-person.

2. Random Selection Draw Process

All eligible applicants who submit a complete Expression of Interest form will be entered into a random selection draw. To maintain fairness, the list is randomized then locked, after which candidates are contacted in order.

3. Application and Screening

If you are chosen through the random selection draw and are eligible, you will receive notification by email with information on how to complete your formal application. 


As part of the screening process, each applicant will be asked to provide documentation confirming information for each household member. This will need to be submitted within 5 days of your notification of selection. We encourage applicants to have this documentation prepared in advance.

Documentation to verify income for all household members 16 years of age or older, which can include:

  • Notice of Assessment

  • Letter from recognized financial institution

  • Employment letter

  • Three (3) most recent pay stubs

  • Proof of additional, non-taxable income* or a guarantor

* Eligible income sources can include:

  • Employment income

  • Child tax benefit

  • Spousal support

  • Child support

  • Other income included in your CRA Notice of Assessment

  • Use of Housing Allowance benefits

  • Use of Ontario Disability Support Program benefits

Documentation to verify status in Canada, which can include:​
​
  • Passport or birth certificate

  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship

  • Permanent Resident Card

  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence

  • Record of Landing

  • Documentation confirming Refugee Protection from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada

  • Documentation verifying Landlord references and rental history

4. Confirmation

Once you have completed and submitted your application, you will be contacted within 5 business days about the status of your application and next steps.
